On the 28.04.2015 in Bitola held was a working meeting in the framework of the project: Sustainable tourism for support of the regional development of structurally developing regions in implementation of GIZ RED Macedonia with regional partnership of the Center for development of Pelagonija planning region.
The aim of the meeting was establishment of a working group whose common interest will be the development of active tourism in Pelagonija region and development of touristic product which will be included in the regional brand Peaks of the Balkans. The meeting was attended by stakeholders from the public, non-governmental and business sector of Pelagonija region.
The overall objective of this project is strengthening of structurally weak border regions in western Macedonia, taking into account the sustainability of biodiversity, the principles of sustainable tourism and cultural characteristics, while the specific objective of the project Sustainable Tourism to support regional development in structurally weak regions is creating a border hiking trail following the already existing European hiking trails.
Target regions of the project are Polog, Southwestern and Pelagonija Region. Activities that will be implemented within the framework of the project are:
Creating a Border Network for sustainable tourism development;
Creating border hiking trail that will be included in promotional material (map);
Improving standards of tourism services and tourism infrastructure related to mountain tourism;
Promotion / marketing of the new product.
