From 17th to 26th of February 2014 the Center for Development of Pelagonija region in collaboration with USAID Small Business Expansion Project, implemented by Carana Corporation, was organized “Corn Caravan” for promotion of drip irrigation system for corn in rural areas of Pelagonija region. As partners in the organization of the Corn Caravan were the National Extension Agency, Federation of Farmers of Republic of Macedonia and JP Strezevo Bitola.
The Corn Caravan officially started in municipality of Mogila, and continued in municipalities of Bitola, Prilep and Novaci, and ended in v. Kravari. The purpose of the Corn Caravan was to visit as many rural areas in Pelagonija region and to inform the farmers about benefits of implementing of drip irrigation system for corn, as increasing the yields of the corn, decreasing the irrigation time, improving the quality and efficient use of the water resources.On these events also attended the farmers who implemented the drip irrigation system last year through the project and they had the opportunity to transfer their positive experience to the other participants. Grow more corn initiative will continue with financial support of USAID Small Business Expansion Project, and this year also will be implemented drip irrigation systems for corn to some of the farmers in Pelagonija region.
