The Center for development of Pelagonija region In the past few months implemented the pilot project for increasing the quality and quantity in the process of growing peppers in Pelagonija region by installing drip irrigation systems of five pilot plots with peppers. The purpose of the initiative was to present the benefits of the modernization of the process of growing peppers through modern way of irrigation.
The farmers that were part of the pilot project expressed great satisfaction from the installed equipment through which the benefits were several. They got increased yields of the peppers by 30-40 % and instead of usual 3-4 harvests they got 5 harvest periods on the plot with the drip irrigation system, and the quality of the peppers was better as they got bigger percentage of first class product. Five pilot plots of two decars were covered with drip irrigation system through the project and the farmers invested on additional 15 decars by themselves. All the farmers that have implemented this system or have seen the benefits from it are planning to invest in modern drip irrigation system on their fields by themselves and by applying in the national program for agriculture and rural development.
