In the period of 24 – 27 march 2014, representatives from the Center for Development of Pelagonija planning region realized a study visit in Brussels Belgium. The visit was realized as a response on an invitation for participation from the Delegation of the European Union in Republic of Macedonia. Subject of the study trip was regional waste management.
The aim of this study visit was exchange of experiences in the topic of waste management, between the countries from West Balkans and the European Union, as well as introduction of the current and the future challenges in the implementation of the regional approach of waste management according to the EU directions and the national laws of the countries with EU candidate membership status.On this study trip besides representatives from Republic of Macedonia, present were representatives from the Republic of Albania, Kosovo, Republic of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the study visit in Brussels, the participants had the opportunity to see how practically looks the waste management by European standards, thru visit of the public inter-municipal institution which in the same time represents waste collection center, factory for compost production, and in its former landfill has constructed a plant for production of electricity.
According to the legislation in the Republic of Macedonia and in accordance with the decision of the Inter-municipal Board for Waste Management in Pelagonija, the Center for Development of Pelagonija region will be responsible for the introduction and the waste management in Pelagonija planning region.
The experiences and the knowledge gained during this study trip will be of great use for the implementation of this concept in the Pelagonija region.
